we will not forget...

it was a "normal" morning.
snack time, play, and my baby was napping...
when the phone rang.
My sister-in-law on the other end
clearly shaken.
"are you guys ok?"
I didn't know...my husband was at a pastor's retreat
out of cell-phone range.
"A plane just crashed into a field near us"...
I had not yet turned on the tv (no sesame street that morning...)
that day
and days and days to follow
a continual feed of new information...
the day my children
now learn about in "history"
We stopped by the memorial this week.
What was
just a field
 just a field
just another field...
beside some (unknown) country road
has been transformed into an artistic
and symbolically pieced together memorial
honoring the Flight 93 heroes.

the path of the aircraft
minutes from the Capitol
when the heroes on board
(having been informed of the earlier flights
NY's World Trade Center, the Pentagon)
made the decision
to bring down the plane
no. we do not forget.
we walked the runway strip
where people from (states all over)
were this day leaving fresh flowers
as well as notes and gifts of appreciation
looking through the beams to the actual crash site
(a memorial for the family members can be sighted from here)
aircraft like memorial wall
to honor fallen heroes

grove of trees (40)

red, white, and blue
flowers make a strong visual appearance.
chilling.
This is a place of unexpected sacrifice...
for which we continue to say
 thank you
We pray comfort
knowing many suffered
 great loss.
